Summer Science Camp

Summer Science Camp

Summer Science Camp (SSC) SSC is- a six-day comprehensive academic enhancement program for students in grades Kindergarten through 12, which includes elements of creativity, mentoring, community involvement, and both applied and analytical learning.  The program focuses on communicating the joy and excitement of learning science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) in new ways.  Students experience a unique opportunity to gain confidence in their own ability to work as “scientists and mathematicians” in a workshop setting.   At Summer Science Camp (SSC) students will experience a unique interactive learning opportunity allowing them to gain confidence in their own ability to work as “scientists and mathematicians” in a workshop setting. Our workshop staff is comprised of volunteer instructors from the technical staff of The Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Southern California Gas Company, teachers — active and retired, college students, and parents of students, community members, and high school students. The unique program format and our highly skilled volunteers create innovative learning experiences through a broad range of workshops.  Engineers, scientists, educators, and a host of other talented individuals invite students to explore and learn in workshop environments that include kinesthetic, affective, and cognitive learning. And it is these formal and instructional as well as “real world” or “hands on” experiences which transform students’ lives and career paths! It is the goal of SSC to increase the student’s interest and enjoyment of math and science while connecting one interest to another. As an example a student interested in Astronomy would not only learn Astronomy but would learn the math and technology supporting the study of Astronomy. This connection adds value to the learning experience without the pressure of tests and assignments
