  • Workshop Description: Computer Science (CS) is really all about teaching you how to be very good at being very bossy and about getting what you want. As a programmer, your job is to give orders to the computer through the use of a “language” that the computer understands. In this workshop you will learn how games and apps are made and you will learn this by coding a game called Hog.
  • Prerequisite: Strong in mathematics and science or completion of Algebra 1.

ENERGY TODAY AND TOMORROW Grades: 9th-12th

  • Workshop Leads Carlos Gaeta, Engineer (Southern California Gas Company-6 year SSC volunteer) Daniel Hernandez Rivera, Engineer (Southern California Gas Company 5 year SSC volunteer)
  • Workshop Description: In this workshop students will learn about different energy sources and how they are being used to power cars, cook food, launch projectiles, and heat our homes. Students will evaluate the performance of renewable energies including wind, solar, and bio gas energy. The course will include Food Science and the chemistry of cooking. Students will build a garbage digester, launch rockets, and receive a demonstration on properties of natural gas, propane, and electricity. Lessons will include discussions on environmental impacts, viability, and what we can do Today to evolve how we energize the world Tomorrow.
  • Subjects covered: Environmental Science, Chemistry, Physics, Food Science, and Mechanics.
